Roles: Compositing

'practicematerials'

Early in my first semester of university this year (2023) I was shown these materials by a friend who had seen them on linkedin. These are some really excellent resources that I have now been suggesting other people at uni to have a go with, there’s a huge range of tasks that can be practiced with these materials and they’re all free! So thank you Peter if you see this, they’re filling a much neglected gap in free accessible learning materials for nuke!

For my third year film ‘Headlights’  I knew there would be a lot of Cleanup and Roto tasks as it is 20 shots long, as well as some CG integration. As we weren’t planning on filming until December I wanted to keep my comp juices flowing so downloaded these two shots and started chipping away at them over a couple of weeks:

The first I downloaded was this ‘tunnelGhost’ shot as I knew there was a possibility that we may film ‘Headlights’ Day-to-Night I wanted to get some practice at grading day to night but also sharpen my cleanup and roto skills:

'blanketsLady'

The second which I ended up finding really quite challenging was ‘blanketsLady’, which involved more DMP, Merging 2 plates together and a sky replacement, which I’d never really focused on. But having done this shot now I am excited to give lots more shots like this a go:
